FRYLANDS – cyclocross racing & gravel

The Frylands are built to go fast off road. Designed for cyclocross racing, they’re equally at home on gravel or ultra-distance rides. Or, of course, a durable road disc bike.

With 28 spokes front and rear, they’re strong so you don’t have to be cautious. We use the disc version of the tubeless-compatible Kinlin XR22 rims from the popular Crystal Palace wheelset as they’re stiff and light and even fairly aero. Owen Wheels disc hubs have great quality sealed bearings and stand up to plenty of abuse.

The hubs are very versatile and have swappable axles and freehubs, so are available in quick release, 12mm or 15mm thru-axle front and 12x142mm thru-axle rear. The freehubs are Shimano 11-speed (lightweight aluminium with steel anti-bite strip), Campagnolo or SRAM XDR 11/12 speed.

These wheels are around 1510g, and are £540 a pair.

They can also be built with Sapim Race spokes, which are round and double-butted instead of bladed – meaning a pair of wheels that are just as strong but more economical – for £450 at around 1560g.
